UHC Day 2024: Advocating for Government Action for Resilient Healthcare Systems
An annual rallying point for the global movement of health for all, today is Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day
Celebrated annually on 12 December, UHC day marks the anniversary of the United Nation’s historic and unanimous endorsement of universal health coverage in 2012.
Universal health coverage means that all people have access to the full range of quality health services they need, when and where they need them, without financial hardship.
This year’s theme, “Health: It’s on the government!”, highlights the essential role that governments play in creating robust health systems that ensure no one is left behind. The message is clear: the responsibility for ensuring universal health coverage (UHC) lies with government leaders, and the need for action has never been more pressing.
Effective anaesthesia services are critical to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and ensuring strong emergency, critical, and operative care (ECO) systems that are integral to a resilient healthcare system.
That’s why, with our member societies, we’re working with governments across the globe to prioritise the integration of ECO planning in national health care plans.
