Rooting for HIV - Sensitive Universal Health Coverage

The country through the Ministry of Health has established a Social Health Authority (SHA) with funds to support the drive towards universal health coverage (UHC) through primary health care (PHC). NEPHAK has embarked on dialogue with the Ministry of Health and the SHA leadership to ensure HIV care is covered under the government social insurance schemes. It is through SHA inclusion of HIV care that Kenyans living with HIV can be part of the UHC drive. NEPHAK plans to convene consultative meetings with communities, civil society, county governments and national government to drum up support for the inclusion of HIV care under SHA coverage. The convenings shall be part of the NEPHAK agenda towards the 2025 World AIDS Day 2025 and will run in the entire November, climaxing on the 1st December 2025 [World AIDS Day]. The ultimate event will be a High Level Panel of Ministry of Health and SHA officials to deliberate on the key actions required to have HIV care prioritized under universal health coverage. The High Level Panel is planned for 11th December 2025 [Global UHC Day 2025]
