UHC Day & Human Rights Day joint statement by Asia-Pacific communities & civil society
In commemoration of UHC Day and Human Rights Day this week, Global Fund Advocates Network Asia-Pacific (GFAN AP), Activists’ Coalition on TB – Asia-Pacific (ACT! AP), Africa Japan Forum (AJF), Civil Society Engagement Mechanism for UHC2030 (CSEM), CSO Platform, and Seven Alliance Asia Pacific are releasing a joint statement in affirmation of every person’s inalienable civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights, including the fundamental right to health.
The statement emphasises that human rights should be positive, essential and attainable, and highlights the immense challenge that key and vulnerable communities — including millions of people living with, vulnerable to and/or affected by HIV, TB and malaria worldwide — face in accessing essential health services due to financial cost, among other significant barriers.
We call on world leaders, decision-makers, and all stakeholders to rally for additional and increased pledges to the Global Fund's Eighth Replenishment, repeal restrictive and discriminatory laws that criminalised key & vulnerable populations, enact legal protections to uphold human rights for all, and increase domestic resources for health to a minimum allocation of 5% of GDP.
