Universal Health Coverage Day (UHC) Stakeholders Consultation in Taraba State, Nigeria

Centre for Initiative and Development (CFID) will host an in-person and stakeholders UHC consultation in Jalingo, Taraba state capital, Nigeria.

Universal Health Coverage (UHC) ensures that all individuals receive the health services they need without financial hardship.

In Taraba State, significant progress has been made in expanding PHC services; however, many communities, especially rural populations, women, persons with disabilities, people living with chronic diseases, and zero-dose children, still face barriers in accessing timely and affordable care.

UHC Day (12/12) is an opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on progress, address challenges, and renew their commitments to equitable, people-centred care. This event aligns with Nigeria’s UHC agenda and global priorities under UHC2030.

2. Goal

To drive inclusive, evidence-informed dialogue and identify actionable strategies for accelerating UHC in Taraba State.

3. Objectives

• Raise awareness of UHC principles and promote local ownership.

• Document lived experiences and health access challenges.

• Facilitate dialogue among government, CSOs, traditional leaders, and communities.

• Launch a Taraba Civil Society UHC Platform.

• Adopt a Taraba UHC Declaration 2025 with clear commitments.

4. Expected Outcomes

• Increased UHC awareness.

• Advocacy messages and recommendations for policymakers.

• Strengthened partnerships for PHC and equity.

• Formation of a functional Civil Society UHC Platform.

• Taraba UHC Declaration 2025 adopted and disseminated.
