By recognizing rare diseases as a global health priority, the WHA Resolution on rare diseases adopted this year strengthens our collective path to UHC - one where comprehensive care, research and access to treatment extend to every person, regardless of rarity.
As CEO of Rare Diseases International, Alexandra successfully advocated for the adoption of the WHA Resolution on Rare Diseases in May 2025. Persons Living with a Rare Disease (PLWRD) continue to face challenges including delays in diagnosis, limited access to treatments and care, and financial burdens. The WHA Resolution on Rare Diseases will aim to address these challenges through a comprehensive global framework that includes raising awareness, improving diagnosis, enhancing access to care and treatment, and fostering research and development of therapies. The Resolution recognizes rare diseases as a global health priority at the highest level and has the potential to improve diagnosis, treatment, care, and support for PLWRD.
