To achieve true UHC, we must empower patient organisations to shape the systems that serve them. When patients participate meaningfully, health policies become fairer, more affordable, and more protective of those most at risk.
Dani’s background is in law and social policy, and her professional journey has centred on creating opportunities for people to feel empowered within their communities.
At IAPO, she has focused on advancing UHC by supporting patient organisations worldwide to play a more active role in health decision-making and to help shape more equitable and inclusive health systems.
She co-created the UHC Compass with a group of patient organisations from all over the world, a practical, data-driven tool that enables patient organisations to assess progress towards UHC and hold governments accountable for reducing financial hardship in healthcare. This agenda has been a major focus of her work, including co-organising side events at the 2024 and 2025 World Health Assemblies on the role of patient organisations in advancing UHC through social participation.
Recognising the need for stronger patient engagement in health governance, Dani also co-led the development of the IAPO Global Patient Charter on Social Participation and its Initial Implementation Guide with IAPO members and advisors in the field, offering clear benchmarks and actionable guidance for patients and people with lived experience to engage meaningfully with governments and promote locally rooted, context-sensitive social participation.
