From registering thousands of vulnerable children for insurance to improving quality across mission facilities, my goal has always been the same: to make sure every Ghanaian—no matter where they live—can get the care they need without financial hardship.
Before assuming office as Deputy Executive Director of CHAG, James worked in rural Ghana’s Kumbungu district, where he supervised registration of 35,000 poor children onto the National Health Insurance Scheme, ensuring they could access care when sick. Today, as Deputy Executive Director, he safeguards financial protection by ensuring every CHAG facility serving poor communities is registered with the NHIA and holds active licenses. This effort has enabled 84% of CHAG’s 8 million annual outpatient visits to be covered by insurance, sparing families from catastrophic health costs.
Beyond financing, he has championed quality as an integral pillar of UHC. Through leadership in the SafeCare Quality Improvement Program, every mission facility now delivers care that meets rigorous standards. His advocacy has led to government's adoption of SafeCare, now being nationalized across Ghana. These efforts advance equity, protect the vulnerable, and bring UHC closer to reality in every village.
