Health security is only as strong as the health systems that underpin it. Ensuring universal access to safe, affordable diagnostic services is essential to protecting communities and preventing future crises.
Dr. Lisa McDonald’s work illustrates the critical role that universal health coverage plays in ensuring health security.
Lisa is the President and Co-Founder of the Global Health Security Fund, a Geneva-based nonprofit that supports investment in equitable and sustainable innovations that advance health security with a focus on impact in the Global South. She currently leads BioPREVAIL, a sustainable diagnostic laboratories innovation initiative launched by the G7 Global Partnership and hosted by the World Organization for Animal Health that enables universal access to safe and effective diagnostic laboratory resources.
Lisa created the GHS Fund Access Awards, a program that recognizes leadership in ensuring access to quality healthcare without financial hardship. Her past work creating the Texas Global Health Security Innovation Consortium at The University of Texas at Austin established a model for bringing together the innovation, investment and public health communities around shared goals of community resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic.
