Since 2017, my call has been consistent: health must not depend on a person’s ability to pay.
Kenya’s path to universal health coverage must prioritize financial protection and ensure continuity of HIV services for all who need them.
Since 2017, when Nelson hosted the national UHC Day in Kenya, he has been steadfast in calling upon the government to roll-out universal health coverage (UHC) to ensure that lack of finances does not hinder access to quality health care to Kenyans.
And since 2023 when the Kenya government established Social Health Insurance schemes, he has been mobilizing and sensitizing communities to ensure they are part of the government UHC schemes. In 2025, given the disruption in the HIV financial landscape and with the integration of HIV care in routine health service delivery points, Nelson has been advocating for HIV-sensitive UHC.
