Older people are among those most in need of health and care services, yet are often furthest behind in accessing them. Globally, they are the age group most at risk of catastrophic health spending.
In Kenya, HelpAge network member, Ageing Concern Foundation, led by Titus Abworo, is accelerating older people’s access to health and care services with financial protection. In recent years they've established Older People's Associations on healthy ageing advocacy, convened stakeholders, carried out research - including a focus on older women and older people with disabilities, and conducted sensitization and enrolment programmes to increase older people's access to the Social Health Insurance Fund.
In 2025 they supported 4,600 older persons to enrol in the national health insurance programme. They work closely with government and collaborate with CSO networks on health, SDGs and climate change, alongside other HelpAge partners and the Kenya Ageing Consortium.
