Ubaidullah Alhassan

Pharmacy student, African Youth Medicines Advocacy Network, Nigeria

So many people in marginalized communities feel they are not deserving of healthcare access. As young changemakers, we are not only leaders of tomorrow but we are also leaders of today. We all have an active role to play in shaping a world where healthcare is accessible for all.

Ubaidullah Alhassan, Pharmacy student

Ubaidullah Alhassan is a third year Nigerian Pharmacy student recently recognized as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons in Ahmadu Bello University. He is also a Global Shaper of the World Economic Forum, the only undergraduate student accepted this year in his community. In 2025, he won a grant from the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation (IPSF) after his submission emerged first among submissions across Africa, and he founded the African Youth Medicines Advocacy Network (AYMAN). AYMAN was created to advance the mission of the African Medicines Agency (AMA) — an African Union (AU) specialized agency established to harmonize regulatory systems across the continent, improve access to quality, safe, and effective medicines, and promote local pharmaceutical manufacturing. Since its inception, AYMAN has been dedicated to mobilizing African youth as champions of medicines advocacy, bridging the gap between policy frameworks and public awareness, and improving cross-border collaboration for sustainable health security in Africa.

Ubaidullah has launched an advocacy campaign to encourage medicines access which has been severely affected by the cost of medicines. This campaign benefitted over 4000 people and a 35% improvement was recorded across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. He was able to achieve this through a community of over 450 active young changemakers, as he used a youth co-creation approach in his implementation strategy. He has also hosted the first-ever AMA Awareness Competition awareness competition, receiving 500+ registrations across Africa.

He envisions building a continent-wide network of empowered young advocates committed to promoting access to quality medicines, strengthening African regulatory systems, and supporting local pharmaceutical innovation in alignment with the goals of the AMA.
