Bridging policymakers, practitioners and communities is key to advancing mental health within UHC. Evidence-based solutions can only work when they reflect the realities of people facing the greatest barriers.
Wendy played a key role in improving health financial protection by leading the UHC Working Group of GMHAN. She united policymakers, practitioners, researchers, and advocates to address mental health funding gaps, fostered cross-country discussions, and promoted evidence-based solutions to cut out-of-pocket costs. She guided policy brief creation and structured consultations, ensuring voices from low-resource and marginalised communities were heard. Her leadership sharpened the group’s focus on financial risk protection as vital to UHC, raising mental health awareness in global finance. Her efforts continue to promote equitable, accessible, and financially protected healthcare for all.
